Our Cleaning Process
Survey
We assess your roof condition before cleaning. If tiles are already damaged or fragile, we'll advise whether cleaning is appropriate or might cause further damage.
Safety Setup
Roof cleaning requires safe access. Depending on your property, we may use ladders, roof ladders, or scaffolding. All work is carried out safely to protect our team and your property.
Moss Removal
We remove bulk moss growth by hand scraping and brushing. This is time-consuming but gentle on your tiles. We don't use pressure washers for moss removal on traditional tiles as the force can damage the tile surface.
Cleaning
After moss removal, we clean residual growth and staining. The method depends on tile type – soft washing with biocide for delicate surfaces, or careful pressure washing for robust concrete tiles.
Biocide Treatment
We apply a professional biocide treatment that kills remaining algae spores and moss remnants. This also slows regrowth, extending the time before cleaning is needed again.
Gutter Clear
All debris from cleaning is cleared from your gutters before we finish. We leave your entire roof system clean and functioning.
What We Don't Do
We don't offer ultra-high-pressure washing that strips the protective surface from tiles. We don't promise impossibly low prices that inevitably mean rushed, damaging work. We don't claim cleaning will last forever – regrowth is natural and eventual re-cleaning will be needed.
Types of Roof Growth
Moss
The most visible and bulky growth. Green, cushion-like clumps that thrive in damp shade. Most damaging due to root penetration and water retention.
Algae
Dark streaks and patches, often green or black. Grows flat against tiles rather than in clumps. Unsightly but less damaging than moss.
Lichen
Crusty, circular growths in various colours. Grows slowly but bonds strongly to tile surfaces. Produces acids that can etch tiles over time.
After Cleaning
Your roof will look dramatically better after cleaning. Colours brighten as growth and staining are removed. The biocide treatment continues working for months, preventing rapid regrowth.
Depending on conditions, you can expect 2-5 years before significant regrowth occurs. Properties in shaded, damp locations will need more frequent cleaning than those in exposed, sunny positions.
