Guttering
We supply and install guttering systems to handle Bude's considerable rainfall:
uPVC Guttering – The most popular choice. Affordable, low-maintenance, and available in various profiles and colours. Typically lasts 20-30 years.
Aluminium Guttering – Seamless aluminium systems are formed on-site for perfect fit with no joints to leak. More expensive than uPVC but longer-lasting and available in many colours.
Cast Iron Guttering – Traditional appearance for period properties. Heavy and requires maintenance but can be repaired and repainted indefinitely. We also fit reproduction cast-effect aluminium.
Fascia Boards
Fascias are the boards fixed to rafter feet at the roof edge. They support guttering and seal the gap between roof and wall.
uPVC Fascias – Low-maintenance boards that cover or replace timber fascias. Various colours and profiles available. Typical lifespan 25-30 years.
Timber Fascias – Traditional painted timber for period properties or where uPVC isn't appropriate. Requires periodic repainting but looks authentic.
Soffits
Soffits are the boards under the roof overhang. They provide ventilation through vented versions and prevent birds and insects entering the roof space.
uPVC Soffits – Standard choice for most properties. Available solid or vented, in various widths and colours to suit different eaves depths.
Timber Soffits – Painted timber for traditional properties. Can be retrofitted with circular vents to improve roof ventilation.
Bargeboards
On gable ends, bargeboards protect the roof timber and give a finished appearance. We replace rotten timber with uPVC or new treated timber as appropriate.
Common Problems We Fix
Blocked Gutters
Leaves, moss, and debris block gutters, causing overflow and potential water damage. We clear blockages and can fit gutter guards to prevent recurrence.
Leaking Joints
uPVC gutter joints can fail after years of thermal movement. We replace seals or fit new sections as needed.
Sagging Gutters
Brackets corrode or pull loose, causing gutters to sag and pool water. We refix or replace brackets to restore proper fall.
Rotten Fascias
Timber fascias eventually rot, particularly where gutters have overflowed onto them. We replace rotten timber and address the underlying cause.
Bird and Pest Entry
Gaps in roofline allow birds, wasps, and other pests into roof spaces. We seal gaps and fit appropriate measures.
Full Roofline Replacement
If your roofline is tired, replacement makes sense. A complete roofline replacement includes:
- Removal of existing gutters, fascias, and soffits
- Repair of any damaged rafter feet
- Installation of new uPVC or timber fascias and soffits
- New guttering with correct fall to outlets
- Sealing and finishing all joints
- Cleanup and disposal of old materials
Scaffolding is usually required for safe access. We can often combine roofline replacement with other roof work to share scaffolding costs.
